Tugg

Keeping up the burger theme, here is another popular place for it in Gothenburg. Tugg Burgers, which has expanded from Drottningsgatan to Linnégatan. They are vegan friendly and will maybe give you some good food. Let’s find out!

Sometimes, when you walk past the centre in Gothenburg you might see a lot of people in front of a place. That’s Tugg, a rather popular burger chain with an industrial/hipster setting. They were also on the forefront of having a more meat-like vegan substitute.

Over the past years, Tugg has changed a bit. The branding is changed and more modern, the places look slightly updated as well, and the menu simplified. Nowadays, there is the option to have a vegan burger, yep, only one type, and some of your standard sides like fries or sweet potato fries. All at a price point of 129 SEK for the burger and some 40-50 SEK for the sides. With a drink, you already reach 200 SEK for a meal, so not your cheapest option. In this particular time I ate there, they also have cauliflower as a side, so I went for that.

As you expect, it didn’t take long to receive your burger and sides. The burger comes topped with some lettuce, tomato and cucumber. All in a high quality, so that’s neat. The burger itself is a bit of a let-down however. I remember it being better, and don’t get me wrong, it is a decent enough burger, but somehow just underwhelming. It lacks a bit an interesting touch and is just a BBQ style vegan meat burger.

The sides are also just your standards with the exception of the cauliflower. That was just horrible. Deep fried, dry, disgusting cauliflower. Avoid it, should they have it on the menu. But it looks like it’s already gone from it anyways. So good call Tugg!

But in the end, not much more to say. It’s a burger place that serves reasonable enough vegan burgers.

The price point is a bit high all in all for what you get, but it can help with that junk food craving you might have. Though, there are better burger places around as well.

Price:

Vegan Burger: 129 SEK

Fries: 40 SEK

Sweet Potato Fries: 50 SEK

The Verdict

Tugg offers a decent alternative in the forest of burger places. The options are limited as a vegan, but the burger has a generally high quality and will satisfy you at a fairly low price point. The sides are a bit on the pricier side and in order to make it a full meal, it gets into rather high-price territory for a burger like that. But for the occasional visit it’s absolutely worth a shot.
