What did Sushi A say to Sushi B? - Wasabi!

Lindholmen has become a popular place for lunches in the recent years. Mainly due to the large amount of offices in the Science Park. With that in mind, more places popped up recently to cater to that audience. Shiro by Takame wants to offer a more exquisite sushi experience and is open also during evenings to get locals to come here. Let’s have a look!

Right at Lindholmsallén, the main street of Lindholmen and across the Science park, Shiro by Takame finds itself home. The locale looks decent from the outside and inside and gives a comfortable vibe.

The menu is your typical sushi menu. Next to a variety of pre-defined rolls, they also have just pieces according to the chefs inspiration and poké bowls. As a vegan, the options are as usual limited, so we went for the Vegan luxury rolls. At a whopping price tag of 169 SEK for 10 pieces.

Waiting time was rather long, even though we were there on the weekend and it was not a rush. I wonder how lunch rushes are handled in that case, but before the wait became discomforting, the food arrived.

Nicely arranged on a long plate, on a bamboo mat, the Vegan luxury rolls are looking like a painting. A lot of colours and textures going on. And served with a side of sad edamame beans and pickled onions (eugh).

The sushi itself is filled with your typical vegan things. Some tofu, some cucumber, some avocado. The rice is of high quality and overall it’s quite a decent experience. However, somehow the composition is a bit off. It might be the sheer amount of textures and tastes, but it feels very adapted to the Swedish taste. So, more acid and lettuce vibes, and less umami and comforting sushi vibes. Nothing too problematic, but just not my kind of vibe. The quality of the ingredients seems to be high though, so Shiro by Takame has this going for itself.

In the end, the experience leaves you a bit empty. Not only because 10 pieces are not that filling, but also because it seems to lack more filling ingredients. Very little avocado (only some tiny slices on top), very little tofu, and mainly empty lettuce. Even after paying the whopping 169 SEK you will feel hungry. Not a good deal.

The Verdict

Vegan sushi is always a bit of a gamble. Shiro by Takame uses high quality ingredients, but the composition just doesn’t feel right. A lot of lettuce, very little filling tofu and avocado. With a whopping price tag of 169 SEK for 10 pieces, you will still feel hungry, and it’s not the best sushi you might eat. Probably a good place for lunch, but outside of it, it’s just not worth it.
