Let me tell you more!

The idea behind The Vegan Guide to Gothenburg stems simply from frustration.

So, here’s some back story:

I became fully vegan sometime around early 2019. Quite late, true, but I have been vegan-close for a while before that already. I kept telling myself my inner Polishness requires me to simply eat everything not to waste. In any case, during that time it was still surprisingly weak in regards to vegan options, even here in good old alternative Gothenburg. But also I was on a rather low income, so eating out wasn’t the best option. Hence, I cooked a lot myself. And oh boy, did I cook a lot. Everything was made from scratch since vegan replacement products were not yet a thing in supermarkets, or rather scarcely. That gave me a lot of knowledge about the ingredients necessary for a good vegan diet.

On top of that, I am quite the active character and have been working out for a while, so nutrition and what the body needs wasn’t news to me.

With time and more income, but also the love for socialising, I went out more to eat out in the Gothenburg food scene. Generally considered a great place. What I found to my surprise, however, was quite often the bottom of the barrel. Even well reviewed places on Google Maps had sometimes atrocious vegan options and a clear lack of understanding how to use the ingredients. From simple ‘we can’t do that vegan’, despite all it needs is not to add one specific ingredient, to ‘cabbage soaked in margarin’ and ‘wet tofu’. I have seen a lot.

But, there are great places out there and I have eaten at them. The problem simply is: there is no proper, comprehensive guide to vegan food in Gothenburg. It is always tacked on to guides, the same way the vegan options are. Meat first, vegan if someone asks.

The Vegan Guide to Gothenburg is intended to change that and fully focus on vegan, and vegan only.
