Takame

3/5
What is this fusion?

Takame is quite a known place in Gothenburg and has been around for a while. It’s a bit more of a fancy sushi place in the centre that is also focused on fusion, which basically means they have some basic Korean dishes and call it a day. But I don’t mind that, as Asian cuisine is vegan friendly, as you may know. Plus, I like it a lot, so good circumstances, right?

Located at the edge of the central area that used to be a nice place to see the river from (when outdoor-seated), it is now still a mess thanks to Västlänken. But that’s alright, as the interior invites you to a modern, metropolitan atmosphere that does feel quite well thought-through.

Service from the start off has been a bit more of a hunt for someone paying attention. When you enter, the staff doesn’t want to know you have arrived, so be ready to blow up like you are scaring off a bear. But it doesn’t stop here, as when you get seated, the menu is found on your phone after scanning a QR code. It’s the same crappy system that other restaurants like Yammy are using. So, plenty of convoluted options, no comment fields to adapt for allergenes or special wishes, and depending whether you are in the Swedish or English version, the menu is missing items. On top of that, water is charged at 10 SEK instead of being free, as they serve it with a lemon. All very shady, but alright.

Prices are high, with a Bibimbap at a whopping 215 SEK. Interestingly, the vegan options are usually the same as the vegetarian ones but without eggs and hence, charged the same price. Obviously.

After ordering, it took them a very long time to bring food out, which was surprising, as we were there early in the evening and the place rather empty.

The food itself was alright. I liked the crispy Tofu that felt like it came from a waffle iron. The bibimbap itself was alright. The Gochujang a bit tasteless, the toppings are bit rare.

Udon Noodles were a bit better, but also a bit standard. And that’s it pretty much. Overpriced, no real service and alright food. But it is a place that can be a good compromise if you have picky meat eaters that want to go to a place with a nicer vibe, as here you will find good options, plus it’s very central. Personally, I think it’s not very impressive.

Price:

Edamame: 79/89 SEK

Bibimbap (vegan): 215 SEK

Vegan Sushi (10pcs.): 195 SEK

Udon Noodles: 209 SEK

Water: 10 SEK

The Verdict

Takame is your typical modern Asian place in the city. Nice interior, a mix of sushi and Korean cuisine, and overall just soulless. A digital ordering system awaits you, obviously with no comment field to adapt to allergenes, water is coming at a cost of 10 SEK for the piece of lemon, and overall very high prices for the food they serve. It is generally done to a high enough standard, but considering it is an unpersonal experience with long waiting times (even if the place was almost empty) and the vegan options are basically just taking away ingredients by charging the same price, you wonder why you should come here. It’s alright, but plenty of better places around.
