DINÉ Burgers

3/5
You’re the only bun for me.

DINÈ Burgers started in 2014 with their own food truck and the idea of bringing good burgers with locally sourced Swedish meat to the people. Topped with their own bread and dressings to accompany it all. By now they have seven restaurants around Sweden and offer vegan alternatives to many of their burgers.

When entering the place, you are greeted with some cheeky posters, an industrial, but cosy setting and the top hits of the last 20 years playing through the speakers. It feels alright and how you expect any burger place to look like.

Let me digress a little moment. Recently, speaking of the last 5-7 years, Gothenburg has had a massive invasion of new burger places popping up. Sometimes it feels like every second restaurant is a burger place by now. Fortunately it isn’t, but due to that, every burger place needs some sort of uniqueness to it. DINÈ burgers feels from the get-go like any other place.

Looking into the menu, you will see a variety of options and a little symbol, if they can be made vegan. In total 5 vegan options are available, however it is very unclear how that will look like, as they just state, for example, that “Bacon & Cheese” or “Halloumi” can be made vegan. I am at a loss of words. Burgers are served with potato and sweet potato fries mixed and truffle mayonnaise. Can it be any more cliché?

When served, the burgers look alright. They are served in a metal dish with a DINÈ grease paper and look appealing enough. When biting into the burger, you feel no Beyond Meat, but soy mince that is made into a patty. It’s juicy, it’s nice and I am happy that for once I don’t have to eat Beyond Meat or a shady Swedish falafel that got deep fried for too long. The bun surrounding the patty feels odd though, as it is very sweet and tastes more like a cake. Even the consistency seems like it’s not a yeast based bun, but they used baking powder as a rising agent. Weird and not great. The fries are as expected.

When it comes to the variety, it seems that the only way burgers differ at DINÈ is through the sauce they put onto it. Both burgers were identical apart from this part. I had chili mayonnaise, my wife BBQ sauce. But there was no difference in composition or vegetables. Looking back at the menu, it seems that’s the case for all burgers. Understandable to fluff up the menu, but lazy and uninspired.

In the end, that’s how I felt after eating at DINÉ. Lazy and uninspired.

Price:

Burger with fries and truffle mayonnaise: 175 SEK

Drinks: 34 SEK (even alcohol free beer)

The Verdict

You know that feeling, where everything just feels a little bit too familiar? DINÈ Burgers offers you nothing that you haven’t seen somewhere else before, sometimes better, sometimes worse. Everything is executed competent enough, from the decor, the plating and the food. But it doesn’t feel like there is anything unique about this place. DINÉ Burgers? More like Déjà Vu Burgers.

It’s okay for a one-time visit.
