TomToms Burritos
“Bean there, done that.”
TomToms Burritos is a small chain with two locales in Gothenburg. One at Odinsplatsen and one in Linné, both a little bit off the main paths, but still quite accessible. They offer a simple menu with three vegan options, two vegetarian that can be made vegan and one always vegan one.
Comfort food and burrito tend to be a rather inseparable combination. Burritos are also one of the easiest way to fool people into accepting vegan food as a tasty alternative, so my hopes are high for TomToms!
Both of the two locations are rather tiny and cramped, so when entering you might encounter a row of bums from other customers waiting to order, at least around Odinsgatan. Sitting might be similar, if you intend to do so during busy hours, where you might end up right next to a stranger. But usually it works out quite well.
The menu is primarily a selection of different kinds of burritos, but also some burrito bowls if you want to cut out carbs by having your burrito not nicely enclosed in a tortilla, but just out there in the open, like no one tucked it in. Seriously, go for the tortilla.
We have a sweet potato filling, a guacamole based one and lastly, pulled jackfruit style. You can also choose your salsa with them, mild, medium and spicy. I usually go for medium. That’s just the right amount of heat and the slight koriander taste is a really nice dynamic. Personally, I am not too fond of the sweet potato burrito, as that one is more of a mush. The other two are very nice though, usually packed with a bunch of beans, rice and sauce.
However, if you are unlucky, you might end up with a somewhat cold burrito during rush hour, as they try to really push them out. So be warned about that!
Other than that, you get pretty much what you expect and/or hope for. TomToms gives you a decent enough burrito, served with taco chips, to a cheap price. It’s not flashy in any way, but as a simple comfort food it really does the trick. Much recommended for that purpose, but don’t expect the nicest experience overall.
Price:
Burrito: 119 SEK
Lunch deal: 109 SEK incl. drink
The Verdict
If you are in need of a juicy and filling burrito, TomToms will not disappoint. The burritos are filled to the brim with rice, beans, guacamole and other goodness, while served on a bed of taco chips. My tip, take Salsa Verde as your sauce. Just a hunch of a kick, but very fruity. Overall, it can be a bit salty sometimes, especially with the added taco chips. Also, the locales are tiny and often crowded up, so you almost sit on a strangers lap if you are unlucky, while waiting times seem to be extra long during those times, also due to their incoming Foodora orders.
Still, great place, always filling and an easy choice!
