Dumplings M.M

Sometimes you are in need of some nice and cosy dumplings. Weirdly, a type of food not that common around Sweden. Don’t get me wrong, there are plenty of Asian restaurants, but dumplings are still a rare sight. Dumplings M.M is located right at the corner of Saluhallen and has dumplings in the name. Worth a shot?

Finding Dumplings M.M is harder than it seems at first. The place is so centrally located, right across the cinema Biopalatset at the edge of Saluhallen, that it blends in with the scenery. You will find a word cloud of their menu, saying “DUMPLINGS nudlar SUSHI take away”. You know right away what they have.

There is no indoor seating, it’s just a shed that sells food and gives it to you, so expectations are low. They have a menu with a variety of things, as indicated on their word cloud, and the prices range from 65 SEK to 85 SEK. Ridiculously cheap. When asking for the ingredients of some of the food, the lad behind the counter just pulls out a laminated sheet of ingredients straight from the back of the box of the frozen food they want to serve you. But good to know it’s the vegan dumplings from the freezer.

We didn’t take any chances and took the dumplings and they came after a short waiting time in a take-away box. Unexpectedly the box contained more than 10 pieces of sad dumplings, but instead 10 pieces of sad dumplings with a little salad, rice and some more soy sauce. Not too shabby considering the expectations.

The food itself is nothing that will blow you away. It is frozen food warmed up. They use the exact same dumplings you can buy at the supermarket and charge you for that. But in all fairness, they charge you very little to give you warmed up food plated with rice. I can respect that. Still, it’s basically unethical in hospitality to serve people food like that. There are also more dishes on the menu besides the dumplings, but I didn’t even want to dare looking at sushi or the stir fry.

In the end, the name is Dumplings M.M, so if their name-giving food is looking like that, let’s not ask too many questions we don’t want to have the answers for.

Price:

10 Dumplings with rice: 85 SEK

Soft drink: 15 SEK

The Verdict

If you want to fill your belly on the very cheap side, Dumplings M.M will help you with that. In the end you are paying someone to warm up frozen food from the supermarket and plate it for you. And in all fairness, the price they ask for that is reasonable, especially considering the location. But in the end, it still is frozen supermarket food warmed up. Still, kudos to the young fella behind the counter running the show with a friendly face.

But, definitely avoid this place.
