The Joint - Genuine Street Food

4/5
Burgers!

One thing is clear: there is no shortage of burgers in Sweden. Since the boom some 10 years ago it hasn’t stopped with places popping up serving you some meat-like stuff in between bread. As a vegan, you can see a bit of a reversed trend though. While most places will still have vegan burgers, the imagination has gone downhill and finding a good vegan burger has started to become a challenge. So, what’s up with the Joint?

With a location in Olskroken, The Joint is more of a neighbourhood restaurant. Redbergsplatsen nearby, but still quite the walk and not many non-locals usually around the area. Due to that, you can tell that they are proudly featuring their Foodoora delivery option and all the awards they won in recent years.

The place itself is quite cosy though. A bit of a fonky 60s theme with a round bar in the middle, only a few tables and a genuinely nice atmosphere. The menu offers to choose your protein for all burgers, but only two burgers are fully vegan, the Veggie Nest and Potato Patata. The first one more of your traditional BBQ-style burger with caramelised onions, the latter more like an Indian veggie burger. Interesting to see something unique like that.

On top of that, the Joint has Mexican-inspired street food as well such as tacos, some pasta and burritos. A bit odd, but why not? The burrito is a vegan one here, and tacos can be made vegan as well.

With a pricing of around 119-129 SEK/dish, this is quite a cheap dining experience.

We went for burgers with fries, which after a short wait arrived at our tables. And fries it is. 42 SEK to get a mountain of them next to your burger!

How is the burger? Quite alright! Definitely one of the better ones I have seen in recent years. The Veggie Nest is hereby a well balanced burger with a soy pattie. Nothing surprising, but well executed.

The Potato Patata is a bit more of an oddity. It works, but I am not the biggest fan of it. Still, it’s good to see something like this!

And there you have. Price point is low, food is good, atmosphere is cosy. The Joint is a little surprise and worth a visit for a burger and mountains of fries. I’d come again!

Price:

Burger: 119 SEK/129 SEK

Fries: 42 SEK

The Verdict

The Joint is quite the surprise. While the location makes it seem like your typical neighbourhood restaurant/pub, it is also worth a visit if you are not from the area. Two distinct vegan burgers, one more traditional BBQ one with a soy patty, and one Indian style veggie burger with a potato patty await, as well as some Tex-Mex options. With a price point of 119/129 SEK/burger and 42 SEK for a mountain of fries, this is quite the cheap feast for a pretty decent burger. Clearly one of the better vegan ones you can get, and for this price nothing to regret either. Together with the cosy, and slightly fonky, atmosphere, The Joint is quite a good place for a simple burgers & fries date night.
