Star Bowling (Star Supé)

Bowling is fun in your SPARE time.

Sometimes, you want to do something different. Like going Bowling. And when you do, you will probably get hungry, but going to a whole different place instead of just staying where you are can be tedious. So, Star Bowling has you covered. First Bowling, then food. With a large crowd, you can go to their restaurant Star Supé, which offers 2-course and 3-course menus. How is it?

Quick disclaimer: I am primarily reviewing the food of Star Supé, not the entire bowling procedure, but I will leave a few words about bowling as well.

In any case, we were a large group and needed to choose beforehand what we would like to get. The menu offers very little, especially for vegans. A whopping one pre-course is vegan and the main is vegetarian. Desserts, no chance. And all of that to a price point of 449 SEK for pre-course and main. Oh wow.

But, I like to keep an open mind. Waiting time was acceptable for such a large group, but the vegan falafel salad took roughly 5 minutes longer than all the other dishes to be served. Not a good sign, and probably someone just forgot about it. The falafel salad itself was merely a sad interpretation of a salad. Four tiny falafel, a bit of mixed lettuce, cucumber and tomato, and two splashes of hummus. It’s okay, size-wise, as a pre-course, but it was clear this was frozen falafel from the whole sale and slightly overfried as well. No thank you.

After a bit more of waiting time, the mains arrived. While also the meat versions looked sad, the vegetarian version, a cauliflower on mashed potato-ish with some salad and “pickled vegetables” was a step up. Downwards, that is.

The cauliflower was chewy (?) and like it was standing in the kitchen, cooked for two days. The pickled vegetables were just some onions and the side salad was rucola with chewy (again?) pine nuts. I didn’t eat the mashed potato, as I highly suspect it is not vegan. But even aside of that, this was simply horrible.

No dessert for vegans either, so there ends this experience. Tiny portions, horrible execution, extremely high-priced. I’d be ashamed to run a restaurant like this, but they seem to be getting away with it. Quick note about the bowling: you need to pay 25 SEK for the wardrobe and there is no shoe-service. So, and let this sink in, you have to find your own shoe size, usually just worn by someone else, so sweaty and warm. No one cleans them, desinfects them, or organises them. Yikes.

Price:

2 dishes: 449 SEK

3 dishes: 549 SEK

The Verdict

Star Bowling is a horrible experience. While the restaurant for larger groups shows they can’t handle it, the entire picture including bowling shows that this place has no care for what they do. Neither the bowling, nor the food will be a pleasant experience. If you want to go bowling and eat better, probably it’s cheaper to fly to Poland and do it there than to spend an evening at Star Bowling. Avoid.
