Spanska Köket

5/5
A buena hambre, no hay pan duro
— Spanish saying

Spain is known for hospitality, a positive attitude to life and food. Though most will probably connect it to cheese and meat in various forms, the cuisine also offers many traditional vegan dishes. Spanska Köket in Linné fortunately decided to showcase many of the latter ones, so let’s give it a shot.

Located right around Skanstorget, it’s kinda central, but also a bit off. But if you know Gothenburg, you are aware of the many restaurants around that street. When entering, the sheer size of Spanska Köket unfolds, with many layers and tables. It’s a very large place, but also very well staffed to keep it running. A good sign!

Thankfully we were seated in a more quiet area deeper inside and the menu comes in the form of a newspaper. Not my favourite, but a clear page with the dishes gives still a good idea. And a large “vegan” sign next to the vegan dishes is always appreciated. And oh boy, there were many.

Ranging from different types of bread, olives, potatoes, and other vegetables among the tapas, to main dishes such as vegan pizza and paella. We went for a lot of tapas and the vegan paella, as well as alcohol free Sangria.

Service was super attentive and fast. While waiting you get served some bread already to still that hunger a little but, but even after only a short time, food already comes to the table.

The tapas were great. Whether it’s the pimientos padrones, the pan de tomate or the patatas bravas. They were well executed and clearly good ingredients are used. Only the olives were a bit of a downer, but still on a high level.

After the tapas, the paella came. It’s a two people portion and I’d say it could also feed three. But since I am quite the eater, it was fine. Taste-wise it was strong in saffron and had asparagus and artichokes in it, next to your peas and corn. In total a great composition, but I’d think I’d set on just more tapas next time due to the sheer size of the paella.

Finally, when the bill came, a pleasant surprise greeted us as well. It was significantly cheaper than we expected. Ranging at only around 500 SEK/person for a feast with a pitcher of Sangria in a nice establishment with good service. Feels almost like a steal.

Hence, I can highly recommend Spanska köket for a nice evening, especially if you get tired of Asian food sometimes.

Price:

Tapas: 55 SEK - 99 SEK

Main dish: 165 SEK - 180 SEK

Alcohol free Sangria (pitcher): 180 SEK

The Verdict

What a feast! Spanska Köket has not only a large variety of vegan food, they are also done to a high quality and surprisingly affordable. So, get yourself here, try their entire menu, and top it off with some alcohol free Sangria. The attentive service will only make your experience better.

Absolutely recommended for an escape to a warmer climate!
