Mosaik Konstcafé

5/5
We become not a melting pot but a beautiful mosaic.

Another Kvilletorget Special! This time a visit to the Middle Eastern cuisine at Mosaik konstcafé. This has been a hidden gem for a while already when they were still based in Majorna, but needed to close recently. Thankfully they managed to find a place on the beautiful Island. For me, it was the first time, but expectations were high.

Located in an old furniture or antique store, Mosaik konstcafé is a bit hidden away. There is no sign, but a small one in the window. So keep your eyes open and if you don’t intentionally seek it out, you will likely miss it entirely.

Inside, however, it’s a beautiful collection of decorations, carpets and furniture. Cosy is the right wording probably. You get inside and it feels cosy. The somewhat christmassy music was a bit odd maybe, but that’s okay sometimes.

The menu is simple, divided into breakfast and lunch, which is an odd phrasing, but who am I to judge? In any case, you will find your hummus, baba ganoush and other classics all in here. It’s traditionally vegan all the way, baby!

We went for a feast and had some Fatoush as well. Once ordered, the only person in the café went to the kitchen and started chopping away. Loudly. And long. Clearly, the Fatoush is made from scratch on order, as it took a good 10 minutes of loud chopping until the food started to appear. Call me impressed, but it’s also odd not to have pre-chopped vegetables.

But when it all arrived it looked beautiful. Arranged nicely, large portions and plentiful of bread. The latter something that restaurants tend to cheap out on - for whatever reason.

Looks are not everything, of course, and so the taste was the deciding factor. And my boy, this was delightful. The Fatoush was kicking it out of the park. Nicely arranged, actual pomegranate sauce, nicely fried pita. This was a delightful experience.

And the other things were great as well. The Muhammara especially was quite delightful and balanced - often it’s a tad too bitter in my opinion. Not here. And after the feast was done, you feel full, but not overfilled. It’s good food and someone that cares about it is behind it, that’s what makes a good place. On that note, the prices are very fair as well, so definitely seek out Mosaik konstcafé. It will be one of my go-to spots for Middle Eastern feasts!

Price:

Fatoush: 119 SEK

The Verdict

Mosaik Konstcafé is a little oddity and hidden gem. Tucked away to the side of Kvilletorget in an old furniture/antique store, but when found like visiting a cosy living room. It’s Middle Eastern hospitality and food as it comes by. Large selection of your typical (and traditionally vegan) dishes, such as Hummus, Baba Ganous, Dollma or Fatoush and all of that to a very fair price point. Big winner is the Fatoush for being well-prepared, beautifully arranged and actual pomegranate sauce being used. But also the other dishes will really make you enjoy your feast.

Much recommended and definitely deserving support.
