Bov

5/5
Pizza is probably Sweden’s most popular food.

It doesn’t take much to make someone happy in Sweden. Usually a good pizza is sufficient. In recent years there has been an explosion of Naples style pizza, contrary to the Swedish style ones (the ones with banana or Kebab), and it feels like everyone is opening a new place catering to this audience. Bov has been one of the early players in the Naples style game. What started as a bakery with sourdough at Gibraltargatan has become a pure Pizza place in Spring 2017. Still buzzing, so let’s go!

Now, I have been to Bov before and loved it (spoiler alert), but the funny coincidence why we went for Bov this day was that the initial Pizza plan was simply not keeping up at all and had waiting times of more than an hour/pizza. Right after opening. So, we went to Bov instead which resulted in us driving there, eating and having a great time, before we would have received a Pizza in the other place. Another point to Bov!

The problem with us not going to Bov that regularly is simply that it is a rather popular place that doesn’t take table bookings. I respect that, but as someone living not nearby, it feels like a detour to just drive by to see if you can eat there or not. This Summer Saturday, however, it was quite empty, so they were happy to receive us.

Bov makes Naples style pizza and serves one per table at a time, which I really like. As a vegan, they have a Marinara and another one with extra olives, sundried tomatoes and goodies, where they take away the cheese. After paying I realised, they even reduced the price by taking away the sardines. THANK YOU! This is how restaurants should act and I appreciate the professionalism.

So, choices are limited, but it’s more authentic this way as you get a true Naples experience without vegan cheese or random ideas.

And what can I say? It’s Naples style pizza as it should be. Fluffy dough, great Marinara, and the touch of garlic slices on it really elevates the flavour. The Extra vegan is packed with really good olives and sundried tomatoes and it’s a more saturated taste, but well composed.

As mentioned, Bov is serving one pizza at a time rather then all at once, and I like the sharing incentive of it. It also makes waiting times shorter, even when it’s busy, as you can snack already and have a good time. The atmosphere is super cosy and the staff is competent. It’s a really good place all in all.

Price:

Pizza Marinara: 139 SEK

Pizza Livets (vegan): 189 SEK

The Verdict

Bov is a great experience. Carefully crafted from atmosphere to Pizza. As a vegan, there is only Marinara and basically a Marinara special with olives and sundried tomatoes, but that is only more authentic. Considering the pizza is of this high quality, the sauce perfectly balances and the staff so competent. You even get a discount on Livets Pizza (the special Marinara) as they take away sardines. This is true professionalism.

Only downside is that Bov doesn’t take table bookings, so it can be a gamble to get a table. If you are not living in the area, this makes it a tad difficult to plan to eat here. Nevertheless, mostly it will work out in one way or another and I can highly recommend eating here. This is how pizza should be done.
