Bastard Burgers changed their vegan patty from Beyond Burger to Peas of Heaven. Needless to say, it got much worse. Considering the vegan bacon disappeared already this makes them pretty bad overall. Also, the new vegan patty includes mushrooms which are not declared openly. And it seems the vegan version is now even more expensive than the meat version in some restaurants. Hence, be warned.

Bastard Burgers is a chain restaurant from Luleå that was founded in 2016. It expanded fast and has now over 40 restaurants in Sweden. Two of those are in Gothenburg and they are specialised on burgers in a New York style establishment. Attractive for vegans: they have a large vegan menu. So, instead of the one alibi vegan burger, you get to choose different types of compositions. What a time to be alive!
The composition of Los Angeles is fantastic and gives you the exact right amount of sauce, juice and crispness. The fejkon is particularly good. I did not expect such a good vegan bacon in a place like this. Still a bit pale, but nice nevertheless. The fries have an interesting shape and are rather average, but hey, more potatoes are always welcome.
Yep, that’s a burger. Scaringly close to non-vegan options and hence for my taste nothing to eat too often, but for the craving every now and then, Bastard Burgers delivers. And that all over Sweden. So, if you are in the north where it gets difficult to find vegan options, Bastard Burgers might save your day.

The Verdict
It’s a burger place and has all the unpleasantness of a fast food chain. But, they give you a large selection of vegan burgers, they are good, and they will make you feel happy inside. The burgers are all imitating meat burgers and hence it’s missing the charm of a traditional vegetable based patty, but if you are into beyond meat, you will not be disappointed.
