Jalla House

Falafel is the reoccuring theme in Sweden
— Pascal Kuta

Falafel is like THE food around Sweden. Wherever you go, there are little Falafel places, Falafel trucks, and people just keep queuing up for it. Personally, not a big fan, but as a vegan, your options are sometimes limited. Especially on the countryside of Sweden, where the Falafel place is your only relief. Gothenburg on the other hand has some more fierce competition in the falafel game, so let’s check out Jalla House, the local restaurant from the food truck (congrats btw!).

Right at Gamlestads torg, but a bit difficult to see due to the reflections on the glass windows (but that’s an issue with all places around here). Here, you can find Jalla House, a tiny little restaurant, but with a lot of love going into it.

The menu has your usual fighters, so for vegans mainly the falafel wrap or the so-called Jalla wrap, which is a falafel wrap with added aubergine. On top of that, you can have a bowl or some hummus or walnut dip. Prices range from 35 for the dips to 99 and 119 SEK. So quite low, but definitely higher than other falafel places.

The staff is super nice and will get away with your order in no time. Presented on a tray with paper and the branded stickers, it has it’s charme.

Tastewise, well, it’s a falafel wrap. Definitely one of the better ones, especially if you take the spicy tahini, but it’s a falafel wrap nevertheless. Mainly bread, some (freshly fried) falafel and some salad. It’s alright, and I am sure if you are a falafel fan, you will enjoy it here.

The star for me, however, was the walnut dip. Very nice combination of spices and nuts and together with the potatoes it was quite the comforting experience and something I can see myself coming back to.

So, if you are looking for some good quality falafel in Gothenburg, Jalla House is your place to be. Fair prices, good quality ingredients and some personal touch.

Price:

Falafel Wrap: 99 SEK

Jalla Wrap: 109 SEK

Hummus: 35 SEK

Walnut dip: 35 SEK

The Verdict

Jalla House is yet another place for falafel in Gothenburg. However, high quality ingredients, proper tahini and lovely people behind the counter can make it worth your while. Personally, I am just not the biggest fan of falafel, but that’s on me. If I am in the mood of eating a falafel, I’d choose Jalla House (or their food truck) though!
