Dirty Dough

Pizza is the best kind of pie chart.

Due to recent developments, I can no longer recommend Dirty Dough. Apparently health regulations have not been followed thoroughly and staff has been treated wrongfully. Below the old review for reference.

In recent years, Naples-style Pizza has become quite popular even outside of Naples. People seem to have become a bit fed up with their own countries’ interpretation of what Pizza should be. Sweden, for example, likes Kebab, Banana and other assortments on a questionable dough. So, luckily, a place like Dirty Dough, right around Lindholmens ferry stop, offers Pizza like in Italy. But, is it any good?

Dirty Dough has been around for only a short time in Gothenburg, but has quickly gotten a good reputation for the good quality pizza and reasonable prices.

Personally, I have been quite a regular customer in recent years, though lately it hasn’t been one of my go-to places. Mainly, because I am not around Lindholmen anymore. Still, I checked in with them again recently and was quite fondly surprised.

Previously, the only vegan option on the menu was a Marinara, but now, they added a vegan Margharita, that is topped with plenty of vegan mozarella. It seems the demand has shown fruitful.

Apart from that, Dirty Dough is located in a newly built building right at the river. The view is good and in Summer it’s a nice place to hangout. Inside, it feels a bit bland though. The very high ceiling doesn’t help with acoustics and it gets very noisy when it crowds up. Adding to this, is a service that is a bit on the daydreaming side. It’s all fine all in all, but not unusual to be not seen for a while or not greeted. It surely feels more like a pizza BAR in this sense.

Also, the place gets full fast, but usually the staff manages to squeeze you in for a quick pizza, even if there are many reservations.

After ordering, the pizza generally arrives quite fast and steaming hot. How you expect it from a good Pizza place. The dough is hereby the main player, that is fluffy and crispy, just as you would get it in Naples. The marinara sauce is rich and full of flavour - and oregano. For 109 SEK, this is a great way to eat bread with sauce.

The vegan Margharita comes filled with vegan cheese. While it’s a high quality one, it feels a bit overwhelming to have so much rich and creamy vegan cheese in every bite. Here, less would be more and maybe some freshness such as a few cherry tomatoes would help as well to balance the taste. For 145 SEK this is also fairly pricey for a simple pizza with a lot of vegan cheese. I’d say, stick to the Marinara. Still, you won’t leave hungry or poor, so all well done at Dirty Dough.

Price:

Pizza Margharita (vegan): 145 SEK

Pizza Marinara: 109 SEK

The Verdict

Dirty Dough is a decent place for a good pizza without emptying your pockets. For a fairly cheap price you will get a good Marinara and alright vegan Margharita. The place itself just lacks a bit of charm and service is on the mediocre side. A good place for a quick pizza if you are around Lindholmen!
