Arojj Dii

2/5
Curry Curry, come into my belly belly.

Yet another Thai place in Gothenburg. Arojj Dii, located near Chalmers on the rather quiet Viktor Rydbergsgatan tends to be a popular recommendation among University-related people. How does it hold up?

It was a moody Thursday lunch when I went to Arojj Dii. During lunch, everything in Swedish restaurants changes, so it was no surprise that the menu was a bit different.

A small sign informs about the lunch deal. Basically everything but some special dishes is part of it. No drinks included, but a side salad.

When it comes to vegan options, the options decrease significantly upon asking the staff. Basically only two types of curry can be made vegan. Kaeng Massaman (peanut curry) and Kaeng Kra Ree (yellow curry). I opted for the latter, a simply one with some vegetables, tofu and potatoes, served with rice.

After a short wait it already arrived on IKEA färgklar plates that I have at home myself. Quite a funny coincidence. The curry itself is filled with your typical ingredients in such an establishment. Pre-cut carrots, potatoes and tofu, straight from the wholesaler-package.

So, it is bland. Low quality ingredients meet a simple and all too oily yellow curry. It’s alright and what you expect at this location for this price-point, but I still find it disappointing.

The main problem hereby is not the food itself, but that as a vegan you are bound to two options of bland curry and not even stir-fry was an option. Lack of options, busy atmosphere and an underwhelming lunch deal (no drink, come on!) don’t really make the place shine.

All in all not the worst place I have eaten Thai food in, but also just not good. Cheap ingredients, low effort curry and rather unpleasant staff don’t make Arojj Dii a place to get back to.

Lunch: 95 SEK

The Verdict

Arojj Dii is your typical Thai restaurant in Sweden. Cheap ingredients, dishes by the book, some low-budget atmosphere. As a vegan, you are lucky if they understand what that entails. Nothing too wrong with it, just highly underwhelming and considering there is no lack of other places, you might as well avoid Arojj Dii.
